Please read on for more information.

The details

The recipient agrees to give proper acknowledgement to Duke University Libraries, and further agrees to secure permission in advance from Duke University Libraries to publish or broadcast any item, in whole or in part, for commercial purposes. All permissions granted by Duke are granted in so far and only in so far as the rights of Duke University Libraries are concerned. Some materials on this web site may be copyrighted by other entities, and persons wishing to reproduce such materials must assume all responsibility for identifying and satisfying any claimants of literary property rights or copyrights.

The recipient agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Duke University, its officers, employees and agents from and against all suits, claims, actions and expenses arising out of the use of reproductions provided by Duke University Libraries.

United States Copyright Law

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use" or any other exception to the copyright law that user may be liable for infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

For more information about copyright law and how it applies to information found on the Internet, see the Copyright and Fair Use site at Stanford or the Copyright Management Center at IUPUI.
