About the Microforms Collection

The Microforms Department houses and services back files of newspapers and most of the library's microform materials.

The Collection

  • The microforms collection consists of over 1 million pieces of microfilm, microfiche and micro-opaque cards.
  • In addition to newspapers, the collection includes rare books, manuscripts, government documents, theses and dissertations, periodicals and many individual works, both singly filmed and included in large research collections.
  • Older titles or collections are listed in the microforms card catalog, newer titles or collections can be found in the online catalog, and print guides to many of the major collections are also available.
  • "S" numbered microfiche, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and ERIC collections are available on the first floor of Bostock Library.

Facilities

  • Facilities include readers for microfilm, microfiche and micro-opaque cards.
  • Scanners, as well as reader/printers, are available for making paper copies from microfiche or microfilm, on either 8.5 x 11 or 11 x 17 paper. Currently we do not charge for copies.
  • Images from microfilm or microfiche can be scanned into one of the machines and burned to a CD-ROM, saved to a flash drive, or printed.
