About the Newspapers Collection

The Newspapers section currently receives about 59 newspaper subscriptions.  Two lists: one for American and one for foreign, show what titles are currently received, their microfilm holdings and call numbers, their electronic availability, and which titles are indexed.  A currently received check-in list for both foreign and American titles is also available.  Foreign titles are alphabetized by country and then by title, while the United States newspapers are shelved alphabetically by state and then by title.

Many of the currently received newspapers are replaced by microfilm within six weeks to a year.  Foreign newspapers for which we do not receive microfilm are retained for one month from the date of publication.

Historic American newspapers covering the dates of 1870 to the 1940's are currently unavailable for retrieval.  American newspapers before 1870 are housed in Special Collections.

Historic Foreign newspapers before 1800 are housed in Special Collections.
