Cataloging and Metadata Services

Mission

Cataloging & Metadata Services supports the teaching, learning and research needs of the Duke University community by cataloging and providing intellectual access to Duke University Libraries' print, electronic and digital collections.  The department creates and maintains accurate records in the library's catalog and OCLC to facilitate discovery and promote resource sharing.

Vision

We strive to develop and to apply creative solutions to manage and facilitate the use of information resources.  We continually build expertise in metadata standards, as well as knowledge of the resources and their scholarly context.  We use this expertise to define, create and manage metadata to serve multiple purposes.
