Tagged Record -

A cataloging record which contains variable field coding, the use of symbols to indicate what part of a record is to follow.

Technical Services -

Technical Services consists of the Acquisitions/Serials and Cataloging departments, which are responsible for acquiring materials for the library and for providing access to them. The processes involve acquisition, checking in materials, cataloging, shelf preparation (including preservation), and special projects.

Technical Services Data Base (TSDB)-

The name of the first automated accounting and acquisitions system for Perkins System and the professional school libraries which was established in the early 1970s and remained in use until replaced in 1990 by the Innovative Interfaces system, referred to as Innovacq, for accounting, acquisitions, and serials check-in.

Technical Services Managers -

replaced with Collections Services Managers.


Title II-C -

The Title II-C Program is a federal program that was enacted through the Education Amendments of 1976: The Higher Education Act, Title II-C (HEA Title II-C), Strengthening Research Library Resources Program. Grants under Title II-C assist major research libraries in maintaining and
strengthening collections which are essential to scholarship and research on a national and world-wide basis, and assist them in making their holdings available. Library activities under Title II-C have included the following categories: bibliographic control, preservation, networking, and collection development. Grants to Duke have included the following: "Cataloging and Preserving the Harold Jantz Collection of German-Americana;" retrospective conversion of 2,500 manuscript records for inclusion in OCLC and RLIN; and a grant of $521,255 to TRLN for documentation of the American South.

Title VI -

A federal program of DOE (Department of Education) that awards grants to institutions of higher education for general assistance in strengthening nationally recognized centers of excellence in foreign language and area or international studies. Grants to maintain library collections are made to centers of excellence. IAS librarians administer these funds.

Traveling Serial -

A traveling serial is one whose older "editions" travel to a different location, e.g., latest in Reference, next latest in the Perkins Library stacks. Typical traveling serials include important annuals, the latest edition of which maybe in Reference, Docs. Reference, or other public service areas. Traveling serial flags are placed in the current issue/volume of selected serials with routing instructions for earlier issue

Triangle Research Libraries Network(TRLN) -

Triangle Research Libraries Network is a collaborative organization of Duke University, North Carolina Central University (NCCU), North Carolina State University (NCSU), and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH), the purpose of which is to marshal the financial, human, and information resources of their research libraries through cooperative efforts in order to create a rich and unparalleled knowledge environment that furthers the universities' teaching, research, and service missions.

Truck -

Monographic Cataloging uses this designation to identify the set of records for titles (usually on a book truck) for which records are downloaded
