Paula J Mangiafico
Senior Processing Archivist
The Special Collections Library has been my home since 1992. I am currently Senior Processing Archivist in the Technical Service Department, where I oversee and perform the arrangement and description of many manuscript collections aquired by the Special Collections Library. Although I'm responsible for processing many of our African American history collections, documentary photography collections, and economists' papers, I also handle anything else that comes my way, from 19th century Civil War correspondence to collections on Durham history. I work with many graduate student interns and student assistants and am always grateful for their efforts to support our mission.
While working as an archivist, I earned my Master's in Library Science, summa cum laude, at North Carolina Central University in 1998. Prior to coming to the Special Collections Library, I received a Master's in Literature from Duke in 1991, and a Bachelor's degree with honors in Comparative Literature at the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1987. I am an active member of the Society of American Archivists and the Society of N.C. Archivists. In my spare time I also enjoy playing old-time music, gardening, and being a Durham foodie.
