			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignleft" title="Psalm 28 by Debra Band" src="http://library.duke.edu/divinity/images/06reference.jpg" alt="" width="252" height="322" />The Duke Divinity School Library and the <a href="http://map.duke.edu/building/66" target="_blank">Freeman Center for Jewish Life</a> are sponsoring and hosting a free exhibit by the acclaimed Hebrew manuscript artist Debra Band. The exhibit, “I Will Wake the Dawn: Illuminated Psalms,” employs Hebrew and English calligraphy onto calfskin vellum, with gold leaf and powder using ink and gouache. Band will speak about her work at a reception held at the Divinity School Library in the Baker Methodist Research Center on September 30th at noon. The artist has graciously permitted use of the adjacent image from a work inspired by Psalm 28.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The New Creation Arts Group and <a href="http://www.divinity.duke.edu/programs/dita">Duke Initiatives in Theology and the<br />
Arts</a> present the first juried art exhibit at Duke Divinity School,<br />
March 20th &#8211; May 1st, 2009.</p>
<p>The theme of the exhibit, &#8220;Reconciling All Things,&#8221; is based on the<br />
book, <em><a href="http://www.divinity.duke.edu/news/noteworthy/20090127reconciliation">Reconciling All Things:  A Christian Vision for Justice, Peace<br />
and Healing</a> </em>by Emmanuel Katongole and Chris Rice from the Duke<br />
Divinity Center for Reconciliation.</p>
<p>The purpose of the exhibit is to promote theological engagement on<br />
this theme and to honor the labor and craft of the artistic endeavor<br />
as a Christian vocation and discipline.  The exhibit will be judged<br />
by <a href="http://fds.duke.edu/db/aas/AAH/faculty/pedro.lasch">Pedro Lasch,</a> Assistant Professor of the Practice of Visual Arts in<br />
the Duke Department of Art, Art History, and Visual Studies.</p>
<p>Art entries for the exhibit are open to Duke Divinity School<br />
students, faculty, staff, alumni and their immediate families and<br />
will be received March 16 and 17 in the Divinity Student Council<br />
office. The artist&#8217;s reception will be held on Monday, March 30th<br />
from 5pm &#8211; 7pm in the zero level of the Westbrook and Gray Buildings.</p>
<p>This event is sponsored by the Divinity School Arts Committee,<br />
Divinity Student Council, Duke Center for Reconciliation, <a href="http://www.divinity.duke.edu/portal_memberdata/jbegbie">Professor<br />
Jeremy Begbie</a>, Divinity School Women&#8217;s Center, Creation Care<br />
Connections, New Creation Arts Group, Sacred Worth, and Fred and Jami<br />
Moss Wise.</p>

<a href="http://leegruberclark.com">Lee Gruber Clark</a>&#8217;s new exhibit, <em>Illuminations:  A Book of Hours</em>, runs from September 15 &#8211; October 31st in the Divinity School Library during library <a href="http://library.duke.edu/divinity/library/hours.html">hours</a>. An artist reception and remarks will be held on October 29th at 12:20pm.</p>
<p>Clark’s work exhibits an understanding of the spiritual connection and physical link between all aspects of life. She is currently a full-time, working artist with a studio in Raleigh’s ArtSpace and both sells and exhibits her work from Studio 208. Her work coincides with October as Theological Libraries Month by drawing attention to a historically visual book, the “Book of Hours.”</p>
