The ECM record label, based in Germany, will soon mark (in 2009) its fortieth birthday. The Music Library has recently been adding CDs from ECM to its jazz holdings (search keywords “ECM” and “Jazz” in our online catalog to get a list). Some of my favorites:
Love Love by Julian Priester - a 1973 disc by trombonist Priester, reflecting the sort of adventurous music that he had been making with the Herbie Hancock group of the early seventies. CD 15519
Gateway, by the trio of John Abercrombie, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette (1975). CD 15502
Pat Metheny, Watercolors (1977). An early, atmospheric recording by the guitar master. CD 15438
