Phonograph records February 27, 2008

Even though we are well into the third decade of the compact disc, the long-playing phonograph record continues to present an alternative for listeners, and high-quality turntables are still for sale at prices that are probably lower in real terms than they were forty years ago. The Music Library has a large collection of LPs here at Biddle (cataloged using another older technology - the card catalog in the Media Center), and in addition we have thousands more at the Library Service Center, including hundreds of great jazz recordings from the sixties, seventies and eighties. To get an idea of what we have for your listening pleasure in the area of jazz on LP, do a keyword search for “33 1/3″ and “jazz”, and limit your search to audio recordings. Once you find something you like, you can request it from the LSC using the “Get it at Duke” request tab.
