It would interesting to conduct a study of recent (the past 3 years) dissertations / theses to see if informal sources are beginning to be cited.  Anecdotally, I have notice an increase in citation style questions coming from undergraduates who want to cite blogs, emails and wikis in their research papers.  But of course this only occurs when the professor allows these sources to be used.</description>
