Manuscripts and Woodcuts: Visions and Designs from Bloomsbury

The Bloomsbury Group was a collection of artists, thinkers, writers, and critics that would meet, converse, and collaborate on works of art and groundbreaking scholarship for over 30 years, until World War II fractured their community. Central members included Vanessa and Clive Bell and Virginia and Leonard Woolf; Virginia and Vanessa were sisters and grew up in the Bloomsbury section of London at the turn of the century. Artistic collaboration was one of the trademarks of the Bloomsbury group, which also included such artists, writers, and thinkers as Roger Fry, John Maynard Keynes, Lytton Strachey, and Duncan Grant.

In conjunction with an exhibit of the Bloomsbury Group held in the Perkins Gallery (December 15, 2008 – March 6, 2009) this collection was digitized to give broader access to important Bloomsbury works from the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library.
