Farewell address from Governor Henry Watkins Allen

Farewell address from Henry Watkins Allen, Confederate governor of Louisiana, 1864-1865. "Executive Office, Shreveport La., June 2, '65." He encourages peace and reconciliation and promises future prosperity for the state, but also encourages citizens to "form yourselves into companies and squads for the purpose of protecting your family from outrage and insult, and your property from spoliation" until the U.S. government can guarantee order and safety. He ends with special praise for the women of Louisiana for their work during the war. Single-sided.
