Depicts death of Colonel Elmer E. Ellsworth, leader of Zoave unit, originally from New York. An early fatality in the Civil War, Ellsworth was shot while cutting down a Confederate flag he'd offered to remove for President Lincoln after Virginia's secession in 1861.
