DescriptionProposal to publish a new weekly newspaper in Greensboro, North Carolina, called the Southern Citizen, signed at end by William Swaim. Proposes to fill gap in Southern press that causes many Southerners to subscribe to Northern newspapers. "The Southern press stands low in public estimation. In most cases the paper is bad, the mechanical execution slovenly, and the matter erroneous in principle, false in fact, and vulgar in sentiment."
