DescriptionAffidavit of Roscoe Mitchell ...("a red-hot Democrat"), signed by Geo. L. Tonnoffski, Deputy Clerk Superior Court Wake County, of an interview with Hon. Henry G. Williams, a former Democratic senator of Wilson County, about the scare tactics employed by the Democrats to work against the Fusionists to break "Negro domination" in Eastern counties, especially New Hanover and Richmond counties. When Mitchell asks if "the result be riot and bloodshed" if the Negro votes anyway, Williams replies "we would lay ourselves open to punishment" but "what we intend to do is bluff them away from the polls...". Mr. Pou, Geo. H. White, Atwater, and Chairman Simmons are also mentioned.
