DescriptionBackground article on U. S. Senate candidate Julian S. Carr's views on trusts. During a recent speech, as quoted in the Wilson Times, Carr vigorously denounced trusts, including the American Tobacco Trust, which he was urged, but refused, to join when it was organized. When an article with the caption "The taint remains" was published in the Tarboro Southerner, questioning whether Carr's position on trusts was consistent with the Democratic party's, the Henderson Gold Leaf company came to his defense, even though it supported Mr. Simmons for Senate, stating that Carr had already sold all his interests and "there is no 'taint of the American Tobacco Company' about General Carr."
