• Description
  "Editorial in Roanoke Beacon, Plymouth, Washington County, of January 10, 1908" asking North Carolina Democrats to support Locke Craig. "He is a Christian gentleman, of acknowledged ability, and pure private life". Since 1886 he has financed his own campaigns and made more speeches than Governor Glenn and Governor Aycock. He was born in the East in Bertie County, but is an acknowledged leader in the West which is "the battleground of Democracy." "He believes in the supremacy of the white race", as highlighted during his tenure on the Committee on Constitutional Amendment, actively helping to secure the adoption of the amendment in 1900, as well as offering a House bill which led to a law "under which whites and blacks ride in separate cars." He opposes "allowing foreign corporations...to remove their cases from the state to the federal courts." He is a friend to education, advocates the Watts Law, and also supports prohibition.
