DescriptionFrom October to November 1965, Cuban citizens were permitted to leave Cuba by sea through the port of Camarioca. Approximately 3,000 left in this way and were assisted at sea by the U.S. Coast Guard. Cuba and the United States negotiated an end to the dangerous sea exodus by opening regular “Freedom Flights” for those wishing to leave. The flights continued until 1975.
