is impressive by its clutter. The King and Queen and Ghandi visited etc. and their photos are there to prove it. Back to the terrace - I was brought Coke when I first sat with them and a servant brought me an orange soda with ice as we toured the palace rooms. It was very luxurious - the late Maharaja[illegible] shot 329 tigers and they're all there some stuffed on the walls etc. some labeled "my 300th" etc. Back to the terrace more chit chat - I ask to photograph, N.N. Singh says he'll let me know. Heavy corrogated iron doors are rolled down on the rooms and I take my leave. The family still on the terrace like out of Forester or Chekov. Home - Berus's - lassi - David absent talk with Ram home bed 10:30.

April 13 Mon.

Up at 6:00 - I have a slight cold, sore throat, leave for Ramnagar at 6:45 - Have to wait around all morning for Mr. Nanbias, he is showing some (newspaper?) guests around, so I copy from a German's book written in 1834, a chapter on Benares.

finally see him, he says I can leave film, must write letter to go with it - home - very hot makes me tired. I get dizzy spells if I stay in a stooping position and suddenly rise up. Everything almost goes black my head whirling. - lunch, another bath - postman coes with import license - I tip him this time - droggy bath again - lunch, rest, out at 5-5:30, see David, buy oranges - tea - home-interpreter drops in I tell him to wait until Wed. to start. Berus - lassi-bed.

April 14 Tue.

Up at 7:30 bath - breakfast - will go to movie for "half a sixpence" this morning, though I hate morning movies. Movie was terrible bore, sound track was awful and it was cut in several places. Waste of time - one never learns you think something is going to be at least light entertainment for 2 hours. - you look forward and plan for it and 99 out of 100 times its a dud. Write letter to Ramakrishnar[?] lunch at Blue Fox David is there I learn the best musical number was cut when I saw it. He says they often do that if the picture is not doing good business after the first show, they just
