above the babble "Does an American live here?" Mary Etta Height has found me. I knew she would, she is the determined type not caring about the odds, or ignoring them, there she stands surrounded by children, rickshaw driver, passers by, all talking in their spitfire way. Mary Etta Height in semi mini skirt, two bags, one on each sholder, plain face, hair pulled back to a knot on the back of her head, glasses, a zoologist, studying squirrels in India. "My God I found you," My new landlord and his wife I am sure are totally confuse. I pretend I did not get her letter. I was planning to take my address to Trapathi's tomorrow and this is the result of my taking it today. She is here for a few days. Her big duty is to buy a large, the largest she can send by post. Siva lingam - she has enlisted the help of a professor at B.H.U. We go there - (she is very germ conscious drinks bottled water etc. being a scientist) he has given the assignment to help her to 3 of his students. Off we go lingam hunting. they can get away with it, they can use exarated gesture, tones of voice. Anyway after much haggling she gets the lingman, boxed, and we leave the boys for the tourist lodge, long rickshaw ride, we have dinner there, brought over from Clarho[?] hotel. Her room is like an oven, my stomach is not feeling well, diarrhea, pus like nature. After dinner on the lawn she introduces me to a very unusual Indian lady. She is married but seems to travel alone a lot. Mary Etta says she is very, very rich. She is in some sort of business, has traveled all over most of the world, she is very sophisticated, yet down to earth. She has a powerful presence and speaking manner. Excellent English a bit manish, good strong face about 50 a big woman or at least gives that impression as I see her only sitting down, in the darkness of the front lawn. She has a strong personality. "I went to this man who had advertised this house for sale. I said I would take it. He said what do you want it for. I said that none of your damn business, what I do with the house I'll live it, what else do you expect me to do with it, are you alone, he says, well do you see anyone
