Eric H. [Hoffer] says he could not live in India, he could not live in a society that did not value the individual man. That in India material things are valued more than human beings, there a human life is dispensable, is cheap. That America provided the material things so man could be free. Catered to the basic material comforts. India offered spiritual values, the next life instead of providing for its people in this life. Relied on spiritual promises.
