Up at 6:00 meant to rise at 5:00 but didn't make it. Have a hard time getting up, very druggy. Left at 7:00 for the American Academy in Benares in Ramnagar. Takes a half-hour by bicycle. by way of Lanka and the pontoon bridge through Ramnagar to the court house. I don't know how many miles. It is pleasant in the morning. The sweepers out, people in morning attitude. Rickshaw wallars [Illegible] polishing their chrome fenders. Groups of women outside of huts past Assi gathered around a pot. The A. A. B. is a bit of a mystery, exactly what it does and why it is in an out of the way and difficult place to get to? It was connected with B.H.U. but the students for some reason accused them of spying and raised a fuss so the university dissolved its connection and kicked them out. It is a good library. It is a shame it is stuck away like that. Very few people use it. It is funded by the Smithsonian. Found several books of interest - home - meal - rest letters from Frank and Arnold - at 4:30 no 5:00 answered Arnold's letter - to Chowcamba book store-
