April 7. Tue.

Up at 5:00 feel sickly - gas all night - diarrhea this morning - the bread is all mold, can only salvage 4 slices with cut off crust. Maid servant washes floor. Mrs Tripathi show me a bed, they want to give me (they have been buttering me up to get me to stay). Write in notebook. letter to Frank - to bookstore they said they would have the books I wanted today only one was available. - lunch - rest - 4:15 to David's he was supposed to go with me to Gopals, David no where to be seen. To Godolia, tea, Daewasmth Ghat sit by water. Stomach still feels upset - home cook supper - Birus for milk. Wanted to photograph today but really did not feel well enough.

April 18 Wed.

Up at 7:30 - awoke at 5:00, could not tell if I felt better or not, sweaty - decided to sleep more - breakfast, bath, stomach feels better, no diarrhea - Mr. and Mrs. Tripathi converge on me long stumbling English of Tripathi on why I'm leaving, his loans, his property, hotel costs, etc. Mrs. Tripathi wants my traveling clock. Mr. Tripathi my watch. I sit pretending to understand less than I do. They jabber on for half an hour. Do nothing all morning out at 1:00 to see tutor - go to see friend who might act as translator. - lunch at 3:00 - 4:30 go see David. He has Charles with him. They are going to have beer. I go with them to Quality have ice cream Sunday - boat ride - Godolia - Vishwanath Gulli - Berus. Bed at 10:30

April 9 Thur.

Up at 7:30 bath - small breakfast - tired - do nothing all morning - Charles drops in is lost as to where Birus is - meet with tutor and friend, they have found no one to act as interpreter for me - friend is unwilling to spend that much time - lunch at Blue fox - meat mixed
