Class 1 coupons have the value of one unit. The red ink indicates that this was to be used in geographical Zone-A as defined by OPA. Space for the name of the holder and record of transaction is on a center vertical. To the left the numbers on the face of the coupon indicated the period in which the coupon was to be used. Eg. in Period 1 the value of one unit equalled ten gallons. Unit value could vary with each period. Coupons on the right of the center vertical had the face value of 1 or 5 gallons and were used for making change. Background paper contains stylized Great Seal and the phrase "U.S. Government Ration" in blue ink.
