Cobblers to the Poor.

Item Information help

  • Description
Photographic essay on a Danish ministry in which school-aged girls, themselves living in poverty, repair shoes for others living in poverty. Photos depict two of the girls working on shoes; and a playground in which a number of children, some obviously poor, play among cast-off tires. Captions read: "Many girls double as baby sitters for Mom, so a 'junk playground' is provided outside the shop for their charges." and "Volunteers at work. Only those who pass their probationary period may wear these uniforms."
