Collection Overview

This addition includes six original, one copied, and one forged letters from John and Charles Wesley (1735-1788); an autograph album belonging to Ann Eliza Fourness and containing signatures, sentiments, and letters (some laid in) of Methodist preachers and adherents in England, especially Sarah Wesley--John Wesley's niece--Adam Clarke, and Jabez Bunting (ca. 1788-1890); photostats of 13 letters and autographs of John Wesley and other Wesley family members (1749-1829 and undated) that Baker requested from the Historical Society of Pennsylvania; and approximately 150 items of correspondence and business records from or to Frank Baker regarding his attempts to locate, authenticate, purchase, and edit Wesley letters (1909-1975). The addition also includes a photograph of a painting of Mary Wesley (Mary Goldhawk Vazeille Wesley), John Wesley's wife. (1749-1975) (173 items)
This addition represents a small portion of the Frank Baker Collection of Wesleyana and British Methodism. Researchers desiring access to the rest of the collection should consult with the Reference Archivist on duty.
