The Gallant 69th Regiment.
Oh! Hibernia, green Gem of the Ocean,
The home of the brave, though not free,
The Shrine of each Irishman’s devotion,
Columbia offers homage now to Thee!
For, her mandates made thy heroes assemble,
When secession’s cursed form stood in view;
Thy brave sons will make rebels to tremble,
And crown with victory the Red, White, and Blue.
When rebels first attempted desolation,
And swore they our land would deform,
The “69th” our brave Army’s foundation,
Swore out Country should ride the foul storm,
With the Stars and Stripes, so glorious, floating o’er them,
And nought but Patriotio feelings in view,
With “Father Mooney” bravely marching before them,
In defence of the Red, White, and Blue.
The Potheen! the Potheen bring hither!
And fill up your glasses to the brim:
May the gallant 69th never wither,
Nor the stars on their banner grow dim;
May Columbia and Hibernia ne’er sever,
But both to their colors prove true,
The gallant 69th then for ever,
And three cheers for the Red, White, and Blue;
