Song

Song.

I suppose you all have heard,
When the Governor appeared
At Barnum’s, to fix things according,
For to have them their own way,
In spite of all that we could say,
And they would land us on the other side of Jordan.

Across the river styx,
And their business was done up accordin,
With Henry Wise’s guns
They would shoot our native sons,
And land them on the other side of Jorda.

If his mission he had filled,
In accordance with his will,
They had it all done up according,
But Rev. he flew the track,
With Ligon on his back,
Way over on the other side of Jordan.

But then we had a Swann,
Who never was Ligon,
For he always fixes things up according;
His own counsel he will take,
Without the aid of State,
And he is on the right side of Jordan.

Now here’s to Colonel K.,
A man I once might say,
At the fixing up of things according,
But truant he did play,
Before the breake of day,
And was landed on the other side of Jordan.

Now if Rev. he had not seen,
Still a man he might have been,
At the fixing up of things according,
Bad counsel he did give,
As sure as I do live,
And was landed on the other side of Jordan.

Now here’s to Governor Ligon,
Who has just left our town,
With his slippers and his night cap according,
Let him send for Colonel K.,
And some other friends I say,
Who are over on the other side of Jordan.

Now here’s to Holiday Hicks,
His business he has fixed,
And he has it all done up according,
Now Ligon has gone home,
To repine o’er his sealed doom,
Way over on the other side of Jordan.

Now my mission it is filled,
And the people are well drilled,
To the fixing up of things according;
Now Ligon and his van,
They may travel hand and hand,
Way over on the other side of Jordan.
