The Union, It Must be Preserved.
A band of traitors vile have sworn
Our Union to divide,
The North the shady walk to take,
The South the sunny side.
In this division of our land
We’ll do the thing that’s right,
For we will take the battle-field,
The Traitors take the flight.
When o’er the hills and plains afar
The war-cry shrill is heard,
Then we’ll support the eagle’s wing,
The rebels their buzzard bird.
The flag that floats from mizzen-top,
When boatswain all hands pipes—
Oh, we’ll sustain that starry flag,
Though rebels take the stripes.
Our Union colors to divide,
There’s no other way to choose;
Oh, we will get the reds and whites,
The rebels get the blues.
Our arms untarnished ever shine,
When freedom on us calls;
Then we will take the loud-mouthed gun,
The rebels take the balls.
