Few Days

FEW DAYS.

Since money’s been so mighty tight,
Few days, few days,
My toes are coming into sight,
I’m going home.
Butter has been getting higher,
Few days, few days,
But victuals always find a buyer—
I’m going home.

Times have been so mighty hard,
Few days, few days,
A man can never pay his board,
I’m going home.
A fellow now can’t raise a cent,
Few days, few days,
And every fip I had is spent,
I’m going home.

A dollar’s but a small amount
Few days, few days,
But when it’s all it’s some account,
I’m going home.
Without a shilling—only think!
Few days, few days,
And not a dinner—not a drink
I’m going home.

The bakers’ loaves are very nice,
Few days, few days,
But small in size, and great in price,
I’m going home.
The Butchers, too, have raised their meat,
Few days, few days,
But folks can’t raise it now to eat,
I’m going home.

I wish that folks would fast a while,
Few days, few days,
And let provisions mould and spile,
I’m going home.
I’m going to another land,
Few days, few days,
Till better times are near at hand,
I’m going home.
