Oh, Dem Old Brown Pants!

Oh, my ole brown pants I will have to shake
For I’se going down for to take dat cake;
And my ole brown pants I will have to wear,
When we go up to de cake-walk at the barn,
But my nice white shirt dat I bought last March,
It’s all gone to the debbel for de want ob starch;
But my white plug hat I’ll have nice and clean,
When we go up to de cake-walk at de barn.

Oh, my ole clog shoes is strung up to de roof,
For it’s awa las’ June since I las’ shook my hoof ;
But de darkies all say I will shake it once more,
When we go up to de cake-walk at de barn.
Dere is ole Cousin Luce and Sister sal,
Dey will take a walk wid Uncle Shinbonal ;
What a great ole time dere will be dat night,
When we go up to de cake-walk at de barn.

And my ole banjo I will fairly make it talk,
When I get it toned already for de walk;
And all de fat wenches will scream wid delight,
When we go up to de cake-walk at de barn.
And ole Uncle pete he will play the fiddle,
While pomp and Lucinda walk down de middle;
And my ole brown pants I will wear dat night,
When we go up to de cake -walk at de barn.
