Maryland, My Maryland!
500 Illustrated Ballads lithographed and printed by CHARLES MAGNUS, No. 12 Frankfort Street, New York. Branch Office, No. 520 7th St., Washington,D. C.
MARYLAND, MY MARYLAND!
Come! for thy shield is bright and strong,
Come! for thy dalliance does thee wrong,
Come! to thine own heroic throng,
That stalks with Liberty along,
And give a new Key to thy song.
I see the blush upon thy cheek.
But thou wast ever bravely meek,
But lo! there surges forth a shriek
From hill to hill, from creek to creek—
Potomac calls to Chesapeake,
Thou wilt not yield the vandal toll.
Thou wilt not crook to his control,
Better the fire upon thee roll,
Better the blade, the shot, the bowl,
Than crucifixion of the soul,
April the 19th, 61,
Those traitorous acts were first begun
But lo! behold, it was not long,
The Union men said this is wrong,
We’ll give a new key to the song
Ex-Governor Hicks, God bless his race,
And Bradford, too, who took his place,
The Ship of State he’ll guide aright,
Her loyal sons are pluck in fight,
They watch the traitors day and night
The Stars and stripes I hope will wave
When every traitor’s in his grave,
She is not dead, nor deaf, nor dumb,
Therefore she spurns the secesh scum,
And says to Jeff, you cannot come
