Who will care for old abe now?

Why’s old Abe so sad and weary?
The Election time will be on soon!
And things around for him look “skeery;”
And poor Old Abe’s a “sure gone coon!”
Brave “Little Mac’s” the people’s choice,
And to their voice poor Abe must bow;
Jokes, Niggers Greenbacks—all play’d out—
Who will care for Old Abe now?

Will Greeley comfort him in sorrow?
Will Raymond dry his falling tear?
Will Bennett smooth Abe’s ugly forehead?
Or Bryant whisper words of cheer!
When “Little Mac” is in the White House,
The Union will be safe, I swow;
Greenbacks will vanish—Gold come down!
Then who can vote for poor Abe now?

Let him go back to splitting Rails;
Like every dog, he’s had his day;
Brave “Mac” is now the country’s choice—
He’ll take the breeze from poor Abe’s sails.
Straight for the White House “Mac” is marching,
With well-earned laurels on his brow;
Jokes, Niggers, Greenbacks, are play’d out—
Who cares a cuss Old Abe now?
