Juice of the Forbidden Fruit

It was about the time that old Eve she did climb
That apple tree long before the war.
And threw down the core, though it made her feel sore,
For her henpecked husband to chaw;
Adam, without evil intention, or maiden invention,
He got up so simple and cute.
With an old-fashioned mill he managed to distill
The juice of the forbidden fruit.

Conkling and Blaine their glasses will drain,
When engaged in a political dispute,
Governor Butler, so gay, when elected, they say,
Called for juice of the forbidden fruit.
Frank James out on bail drinks it out of a pail,
Governor Crittenden’s orders to suit,
And Charles and Bob Ford drink it out of a gourd,
The juice of the forbidden fruit.
