A New Election Song

A New Election Song.

BRAVE English men all I pray you attend
Unto these few lines which I lately have pen’d,
So rise up Electors and stand to your post:
Brave Englishmen all I’ll tell you the news,
How the Nabob of Max’field his Weavers did use;
He has reduced wages to grief and starvation,
And now coming forward to govern the nation;
Then rise up Electors and stand to your post.

This modern Nero of pride and ambition,
Has brought poor folks down to the lowest condition,
Then rise up Electors and stand to your post:
Our wages are plunder’d, we have no redress,
Our wives and our children are brought to distress;
I ask you my friends, will you let him go on
With his plundering Satellites, Davy and Con?
Then rise up Electors and stand to your post.

Seven weeks the strike lasted, the die it was cast,
This plundering tyrant he gave in at last,
Then rise up Electors and stand to your post:
We hope that true hearts will use all their means,
To put down such rulers, and break thro’ their chains;
Oppression, his motto, then down he must fall!
He goes by the title of Johnny Grab-all;
Then rise up Electors and stand to your post.

Oppose him, my friends, with both heart and hand,
And hinder this tyrant to govern the land;
Then rise up Electors and stand to your post:
So now my good friends the Election is near,
We hope the Electors, without dread or fear,
For Grimsditch will Vote, you’ll find him your friend,
And the times in your favour they shortly will mend,
Then rise up Electors and stand to your post.
