Hours of Operation
The computer classroom is open during normal library hours and closes 15 minutes before the library closes. No exceptions will be made.
Access
The computer classroom is located to the right of the elevator on Level D.
Entrance into the classroom is by the DukeCard and use of all computer equipment is limited to students, faculty, and staff in the Divinity School, and Department of Religion graduate students.
Rules for Using the Computer Classoom
The following are not allowed in the computer classroom:
- Eating, drinking and smoking
- Children under the age of 18
- Modifications of any kind of the computer hardware or software configurations
- Physical abuse of the computer equipment or deliberate introduction of a computer virus
- Copying of any software programs residing on the computers as prohibited by the copyright law
- Using the computer facility for personal profit or commercial purposes
- Using the computers to harass other computer users or publicly display offensive graphics or obscene messages
Flagrantly engaging in the above actions will result in loss of computer classroom privileges and/or University disciplinary action.
Respect for Others
- Please limit your time on a computer to 2 hours per session, unless there are no other users waiting. If a computer is left unattended for longer than 15 minutes another user can have it.
- Be considerate of other users who need to concentrate on their work by keeping the noise and conversation levels to a minimum.
- The primary use of the computer classroom is for educational purposes. Academic work takes precedence over all other uses of the computers. Recreational use should be restricted to low traffic times.
- Do not turn out the lights as you leave the room; they are automatically turned on and off by a motion sensor.
- Remember to take all of your belongings (printed copies, diskettes, personal property) with you.
- Do not leave Reference books or other unchecked out library materials in the computer classroom.
Saving and Printing Documents
- Bring personal computer disks if data needs to be saved. Files may be left on the computer hard drives temporarily but unauthorized software and personal files will be erased regularly.
- Printing multiple copies of the same document from the laser printer is not permitted.
- Final print jobs should be sent to the printer no later than 30 minutes before the library is scheduled to close. The printer will stop printing 15 minutes before the library closes.
- To conserve paper and printer toner utilize on-screen editing, spell checking and print preview options before printing a copy of the document.
Reporting Problems
- Report all software or hardware problems to the library's circulation desk immediately; telephone 660-3450. Users should not attempt to fix computer or printer problems.
Reserving the Classroom

The classroom may be reserved by Divinity School faculty, library staff or administrators for group instruction utilizing computer resources. A reservation must be made at least 24 hours in advance by contacting the Reference Desk (divlib@duke.edu or 660-3453). Please note reserved times posted outside the computer classroom and vacate the room before the session begins.

- problems caused by computer viruses or improper use of the equipment
- loss of data due to equipment malfunctions or work left unattended on a computer
- violation of copyright law by users of the computer classroom
