Course Reserves

Course reserves are given loan periods of 3-hour or Overnight (10:30 AM the next day during the week. Fines for overdue reserves are $0.50/hr. The purpose of reserves policy is to maintain access to materials in short supply. Please assume all reserve materials are needed by others. Professors/instructors make the final decision about the terms of use for a book or article. The library makes final decisions about fines.

Reserves/Textbook Form

Faculty and instructors may use the reserves/textbook form at http://library.duke.edu/divinity/help/reserves.pdf . By using this electronic form, you will be able to email it directly by pressing the SUBMIT button which attaches the pdf form to an email from your account. If you wish to use the paper form, you may simply print out copies of the electronic form or request blank forms at the library.

We ask you to complete at least the first five columns (preferably the first seven), and to leave the last four columns blank. Do as much of the rest as you wish, by using Global Books in Print and the library's online catalog. The more information you provide, the more certain you will be to get exactly what you want for texts and reserves.

The library staff will add any further information necessary and return completed lists to you a few days after you submit them. Please contact Cokesbury and the Library immediately if you find it necessary to make any additions or changes.

For items you want placed on reserve, circle 3 for three-hour or O for overnight in the first column.

If you need desk copies, please indicate the number of copies needed (including preceptors) for each title, in the second column.

Frequently asked questions:

Why are all these columns required?

The official name and number of the course is needed so the information can be entered into the reserves system. Also, Cokesbury needs to know the number of students to be able to order the correct number of books.

Why do I have to look up the call numbers?

The call number is essential to place the correct edition and title on reserves.

Why do I have to look up books online in Global books in print; can't I give you the information from the copy I have?

You will learn if the book is still in print or available, how much it costs and you will be able to choose the correct edition for your course. ISBN numbers and publishers are constantly changing so looking at the information on the copy you have is often not helpful.
