Telegram from NC Senator Lee Overman to Democratic Party candidate Alfred Smith's secretary pledging North Carolina's support

Hoover defeated Smith in the popular vote and an electoral vote landslide.  Hoover became the first Republican to win a significant number of southern states with Tennessee, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, and Texas moving into the Republican column.
