Eva Earnshaw Malone

Eva Earnshaw Malone

Eva Earnshaw Malone, 1941, Oil on canvas, 31" x 35," by Otto Herschel

In 1914, Eva Earnshaw Malone was hired by the Trinity College Library as its first full time cataloger. She eventually went on to become the head of the cataloging department, and in 1929, she was promoted to Assistant Librarian. Her portrait was painted in 1941 at the time of her retirement. Little is known about the artist Otto Herschel, other than he was a native of Austria who had settled in Danville, Virginia, by the time this work was commissioned.  This portrait is located in the corridor to the left of the main desk on the first floor.
