Small Teakwood Tables

Small Tables

Small Tables, 1'-6" surface diameter x 1'-10" high

Two small, round teakwood tables, with marble tops and curved legs, stand on either side of the Coromandel screen. All parts of the table, including the legs, are elaborately carved. The Empress Dowager of China gave these tables to John W. Foster, U.S. Diplomat and briefly the Secretary of State in the administration of President Benjamin Harrison.  Subsequently, John Foster's daughter, Mrs. Robert Lansing (the former Eleanor Foster) presented the tables to Mrs. James A. Thomas, who donated them to Duke University.
