Borrowing materials from the Marine Lab Library

Circulation

The Pearse Memorial Library utilizes the online circulation system employed by the Durham campus libraries. Duke borrowers must have a valid Duke ID card in order to check out books. Non-Duke borrowers must get permission from the librarian to charge out books.

All books and serials with call numbers, other than reference books, can be checked out. Reserve materials are non-circulating, except with special permission by the instructor. Current and bound journal issues do not circulate; they may be signed out briefly for photocopying when the library photocopiers are not operational.

Loan periods

Undergraduates - one month
Graduate students - one year
Faculty - one year
Staff - one month

Renewals

You can renew books from the Marine Lab Library or other Duke libraries by logging in to your library account.

Recalls

Books that are charged out can be recalled for use by another patron two weeks after the initial checkout date. Stiff fines may be incurred for failure to return recalled books promptly.

Reserves

Materials on course reserves are located in the shelving range adjacent to the current journals range and are labeled by course name. These materials do not circulate without specific permission from the instructor.

Document Delivery Services

Duke Marine Lab personnel can request books and photocopies from libraries on the Durham campus and from libraries at other institutions.

Libraries not affiliated with Duke University can request materials from the DUML Library by contacting Perkins Library through OCLC (NDD), or by submitting requests directly to the DUML Library by telephone or Ariel ( 152.3.114.160 ).
