|The times, they are a-changin'!||East Campus is the original Duke University, serving as its
primary campus from 1925-1930! It may have looked a little different
then than it does now, however. Find a historical picture online of
your dorm, or of East Campus, that dates from the 1920s. Post it to one
of our Facebook walls, or Tweet it/Instagram it with #LibraryGames, to
(Hint: the University Archives are a great resource for all things Duke!)
|Got a minute?||Visit this "Getting Started" LibGuide and get a quick intro to the libraries. Take the 4-minute quiz to get credit! (You'll sign in with your NetID; choose "Other" for the Writing 101 Professor.)
Already taken this quiz as part of a Writing 101 class? Let us know, and we'll make sure you get credit!
|Smoke Signals||Lilly Library is not only a library - it often exhibits local art and art collections. The current exhibit of photographs asks for user input to title the works! Take part by suggesting a title for one (you might see some post-its on the walls underneath them) and tweet or post the title to Facebook to get credit. Remember #LibraryGames so we can find you!|
|Librarians to the Rescue!||Have you heard about Duke's Residence Hall Librarians program? Every East Campus dorm has one! Find yours and tweet their name along with #LibraryGames.
(Hint: start here!) You can find them on Twitter, too @DukeResHallLib!
|zzzzz...||Both Lilly and Music Libraries have lots of study spaces for your use. Look around and take a picture of a spot that seems particularly comfy...not that you'd ever nap in the library, right?
Post it to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, with #LibraryGames, to get credit!
|"Blue & White"||Learn more about Duke's history by looking at the large panels in the basement of Lilly. Tweet or FB post a fun fact from one of the panels to get credit. Remember to tag #LibraryGames!|
|The times, they are a-changin' ... Take 2!||
In the era of the mp3, it seems like even CDs are becoming "retro" - a
thing of the past. But we've got even older formats in our collection!
Venture into the Music Library to find the outmoded piece of technology
that would play a vinyl record.
|Getting to know you...||Find the Lilly Reference Librarian and ask him/her about his/her favorite movie, book, or CD. Tweet the answer - and don't forget to tag #LibraryGames. Bonus points if you can also manage to get a picture with him/her!|
|Tea for Two||Find the green "teacup" chairs on the lower level of the Music Library - this is a great, quiet place to study amidst the miniature scores! Take a picture - of yourself or with a friend - and tweet or post it. Don't forget to tag #LibraryGames for credit!|
|Need a little extra luck?||It's a Lilly tradition to rub the "Fo dogs" for luck - something to remember around exam time! Find these guardians and snap a picture - upload to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with #LibraryGames.
Need a hint? Head towards the Thomas Room!
|Paparazzi!||President Obama has been spotted from time to time hanging out in Lilly! Find him and snap a pic of yourself or your friends with him. Tweet it/Instagram it or post it to Facebook, along with #LibraryGames, to get credit.
NB: If you do this as a group, make sure you tag everyone so that you all get credit!
|Vrooooom!||A car in the library?? Find the 1920s style vehicle somewhere around Lilly, and take a picture with it - ask a friend or librarian to pose if you don't want to yourself! Post it to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with #LibraryGames.|
|Variety!||THe Duke University Libraries often have multiple copies of a single book. Variety: An Illustrated History of the World... is one such item. Find the copy in Lilly's "Current Lit" section, and leaf through it to find a special ticket. Turn it in at the speakeasy for a prize!
Hint: start your search here.
Not Just Books!
|Did you know that the libraries have materials in all different formats? Start here and search for the title of Jane Austen's most famous novel (hint: P___ & P___). Lots of books, of course, but can you find a "3D Object" (hint: this is actually its "Format" in the catalog)?
You'll be a winner if you find a Golden or Silver Ticket inside!
|We're multi-talented around here!||This room, located within Lilly, has workstations with high-end, integrated hardware and software for multimedia projects - graphics, audio, video, web - and is open and accessible to students during Lilly's open hours! Most people just refer to it by its initials. Somewhere in this room is a shiny ticket - find it and redeem it at the Speakeasy for a prize!
Hint: it shouldn't take long for you to get back - it's just across the hall!
|"...a leader who happens to coach basketball"||We'll assume you've heard a thing or two about Duke's legendary basketball coach, right? But did you know that he's also a published author? In fact his "Little Blue Book" is in Lilly Library's collection! Search for it and you may find a ticket inside that'll get you a great prize!
Hint: you don't have to be able to spell his last name yet - just try searching for Coach K in the catalog.
