Photographer Mel Rosenthal will talk about his work and sign books on Thursday, 7 October, at an event that will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Rare Book Room at Perkins Library. The event is open to everyone.
Mel Rosenthal is speaking in conjunction with an exhibit of his work, Mel Rosenthal: Photographs from In the South Bronx of America, which will be on display in the Special Collections Gallery through 12 December. The photographs in the exhibit document the burning of the South Bronx between 1975 and 1983 in what was described at the time as "planned shrinkage," an urban planning strategy in which residential buildings in older urban areas were razed and replaced with industrial parks.
Gallery hours: M-Th 8am-2am; F 8am-midnight; Sat 9am-midnight; Sun 10am-2am.
