The Florence Blakely Award, the highest honor the library confers on staff members, recognizes extraordinary performance that far exceeds individual goals or expectations. Florence Blakely lends both her name and her example of service to the award. During Miss Blakely's career at Duke (1948-1986), she held the positions of Head of the Reference Department, Assistant University Librarian for Collection Development, and Acting University Librarian.
