Professor Yasu Katagiri will speak on the topic of "Anti-Communism in the Civil Rights South," on Thursday, 8 March, in a 12 noon-1:30pm program at the Perkins Library Rare Book Room. Katagiri, professor of American History and Government at Kokai University in Japan, is the author of The Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission: Civil Rights and States' Rights. He is visiting the Special Collections Library to do research for a book about northern anti-communists who worked with southern white politicians in an effort to maintain the racial status quo. This is a return visit to Duke for Professor Katagiri, who is a two-time recipient of a travel-to-collection grant offered by the Special Collections Library. The event is free and open to everyone.
