Banjo expert and collector Dr. William Michal, Jr. will present some remarkably new information about the specific origins of the most uniquely American musical instrument and a brief history of the banjo in our society. He will also shed light on what makes collectors tick as well aswhy he chose to collect banjos. A major emphasis will be a discussion of the various playing styles and how they relate to different periods of our national musical tastes. FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. This conversation/performance is part of the Rare Music series, which is sponsored by DUMIC (Duke University Musical Instrument Collections) and Duke University Libraries. Park at the Bryan Student Center in the lot or garage.
