An Evening with PlayMakers - Nicholas Nickleby and the Challenge of Adaptation

In PlayMakers’ upcoming production of Nicholas Nickleby, 25 actors play 150 roles. Meet some of those actors, who will talk about the process of taking a nine hundred page novel with hundreds of characters and putting it on stage. Get an inside glimpse into the actors’ whirlwind but rewarding experience as part of this once-in-a-generation show.

Join PlayMakers’ resident designers McKay Coble and Jan Chambers as they talk about creating the theatrical worlds of Nicholas Nickleby. Costume pieces for a show of this size number in the hundreds, and must both accurately depict Victorian fashion as well work well for the stage. The set – with approximately 3 tons of steel – is one of PlayMakers’ largest ever. This is unprecedented access to the creative process with two highly talented theater professionals.
