Keep Calm and #LibraryOn
It's quick and easy!
**Tasks will be announced on this page, as well as on the Facebook and Twitter feeds for both the Duke Music Library and Lilly Library, your two East Campus library destinations! Students who complete 10 out of the 15 tasks will be entered into a drawing to win a Kindle Fire, or one of several other great gifts. ONLY Duke First-Year Students (class of 2016) are eligible to win prizes. The Orientation Games will end 11/16/2012.**
| # | Task / Activity |
|---|---|
| 1 | "Like" Lilly and Music Libraries on Facebook, and check out our latest posts on library happenings, newsworthy items, or other stuff we just find interesting! |
| 2 | Follow @LillyLibDuke and @DukeMusicLib on Twitter. Send a tweet our way, if you feel like it! Check for tweets tagged #LibraryOn to keep up with the games. |
| 3 |
Visit the Residence Hall Librarians homepage, identify yours, and tweet their name. Be sure to tag #LibraryOn, too, in order to get credit for the task! Don't tweet? Then post their name on one of our FB pages instead! (Does your Residence Hall Librarian have a Twitter account, too? You can always tweet them at any time with questions, concerns, or just to introduce yourself and say hi! They'll tweet news and information they think will be helpful for you during your first year at Duke, too.) |
| 4 |
Go to a Duke Libraries Event - anytime in the semester! Check out the Events Calendar on the library homepage to see find one (look for "News, Events, & Exhibits"). Tweet or post a status update about the event, whether it was fun, informative, boring, or whatever! Don't forget to mention either @DukeMusicLib or @LillyLibDuke and #LibraryOn, if you're tweeting, to get credit for the event! (NB: If your Facebook page is private, we won't know you completed this one, right? Make sure to post it on either Lilly or Music's page to get credit in that case!) |
| 5 |
Meet a librarian! Introduce yourself to a librarian on campus and ask them to pose for a quick snapshot with you. Post the pic either to Twitter (with #LibraryON, of course) or to our Facebook page - either Music or Lilly! You can do this as a group, but each person needs to tweet it, or to tag themselves in the photo on FB. |
| 6 |
GOLDEN TICKETS! Find a golden ticket in the Music Library and win a tasty prize, plus get an extra task credit. Clues are on our FB and Twitter feed! UPDATE (9/27/12): ALL 5 TICKETS HAVE BEEN FOUND. |
| 7 | Use ePrint to print a self-portrait and add it to Lilly's "Headshot Gallery" (the Wall of Faces) downstairs! |
| 8 | Find "My Accounts" on the library website and tweet how many items you currently have checked out (you can post it to Lilly or Music's Facebook wall, if you don't tweet). Is anything close to its due date? You can renew materials right there online! |
| 9 |
GOLDEN TICKETS! Golden Tickets Take 2: There are 5 Golden Tickets hidden in the best study spots in Lilly (3) and Music (2). Find one and get a credit, plus a bag of goodies! Update (10/29): ALL 5 TICKETS HAVE BEEN FOUND. |
| 10 |
Have any final papers or final projects coming up? RefWorks and Zotero are two great resources you might want to use! Sign up for an account with either one and show a librarian at the Lilly or Music Circ Desk to get credit. |
| 11 |
ILL allows you to get materials from other libraries around the country - and sometimes around the world! Do you have an account yet? This page has links for you to sign up or check the materials on your account. Again, to get credit, just sign up for an account and show a librarian at the desk! |
| 12 |
If you looked for the Golden Tickets in Music, you may have seen another open study space downstairs, with some comfy, cozy Teacup Chairs. Take a picture with your friends in the chairs and post it to Twitter or Music's FB wall to get credit for this task. |
| 13 | Librarians do much more than just check-out books for you! Find a Research Guide that might be useful for one of your class projects (start here) and tweet (or post to FB) either the Subject Librarian's name or post the URL for the guide itself. |
| 14 | Outmoded technologies task!: Have you heard about the LSC off-site storage? More than 1,480,000 items are housed there! But you can easily request them for quick delivery to a Duke on-campus library. Not sure how to do it? Check these easy instructions. For this task, you'll need to request EITHER (1) an LP and tweet/post a picture of you and up to 3 of your friends listening to it at a Music Library workstation OR (2) a movie on VHS - or even LaserDisc! - and tweet/post a picture of you and your friends watching it at Lilly! |
| 15 | How did midterms go? Need a little extra luck for finals? The Fo dogs in Lilly are rumored to have lucky properties! Have a friend take a picture of you petting the Fo dogs for luck and post it to Twitter or FB [this one is great in a group, too, so grab your friends!] |
