TABS ACROSS THE TOP [select a subset of the catalog to search]

Search only for:

• Full Catalog = search entire Duke catalog
• Journals/Serials = journals, magazines, serials, newspapers
• Duke Libraries = specific collection, branch or professional school library
• Conferences = conference proceedings
• Reserves = e-reserves and print reserves
• More = databases, audio-visual materials, maps, public documents, manuscripts, TRLN and LC library catalogs, etc.

BASIC SEARCH

Keyword

• "and" is not needed to connect keywords; they will be automatically joined
• Results will appear in author/title order and can be sorted in different ways.

Looking for an exact match? Use the drop-down menu to search by:

• Title begins with... (e.g. Sun also Rises)
• Subject begins with... (e.g. Great Britain History )
• Author (last name first)

Results will appear as a browseable list of titles, authors or subjects.
The exact or closest match will appear second on the results list.

ADVANCED SEARCH (Searches Keywords ONLY)

For advanced exact searches choose "Browse an Alphabetical List."

Boolean searching Use the three search boxes to make complex searches:

• Combine different types of keywords
• Use AND/OR/NOT to expand or narrow a search

Search for phrases Use the check-box under the search boxes:

• Searches for all words as a string; you don't need quotes (e.g., French Revolution )

Limit your search Use the drop-down menus on the right and limit your search by:

• Language
• Year (including a range of years)
• Format (i.e. Audio, to find audio books or CDs; Digital, to find CD-Roms)
• Location (i.e. Lilly Library, Divinity School Library)

To search TRLN and LC catalogs simultaneously choose "Search Multiple Catalogs"

CUSTOMIZATION

Log in to the system using your NetID or 10-digit barcode as ID and verification and:

• Customize the default view of records to suit your personal preference
• View and renew books you have checked out
