The American Periodicals Series (APS) is a collection of rare, eighteenth century American periodicals. The collection itself is divided into three parts: APS I, eighteenth century; APS II, 1800-1850; and APS III, 1850-1900, Civil War and Reconstruction.
Access to the materials in this collection may be obtained several different ways, including through the on-line catalog and the Newspapers and Microforms print card catalog, located at the rear of the first floor of Bostock Library.
In order to locate specific dates and/or volumes of a periodical the following information is needed: the call number, which part of the collection the periodical is in (APS I, APS II or APS III), and the reel number. This information is available in either the card catalog or through the index, American Periodicals, 1741-1900: an Index to the Microfilm Collection. A copy of the index is located on the shelves behind the Help Desk on the first floor of Bostock Library under the call number q016.051 H816 A512 1979. Titles are entered alphabetically and bibliographical information is included for each, as well as the necessary locating information.
